Harristown is in the southern suburbs of Toowoomba, approximately 3km from the CBD. It is
home to one of the oldest schools in Queensland.
An older suburb, many Harristown homes have been renovated over recent years. Of historical
significance is Smithfield house. This stunning mansion is reflective of the pattern of affluent
settlement which occurred in Toowoomba in the late 19th century. It sits on a large 4000m2
allotment.
Single-detached dwellings are the most common housing type in the area with a mix of traditional
colonials, post-war housing, and chamferboard and brick and tile houses available. Harristown is
an area which attracts strong rental demand.
Popular with families as well as couples, singles and retirees, Harristown has two primary schools
and two secondary schools, and is close to the University of Southern Queensland. There are
walk and bikeways as well as parks and access to public transport in the area.
